SEO technology
comes in several different varieties including coding, tools and
applications, widgets and files. Using SEO technology to code
a website properly is important so that search engine robots can
properly crawl and index a website. A few years back webmasters
struggled with developing search engine friendly URL's to make
sure pages were indexed. At that time, frames also interfered
with the crawling of a site. More recently many webmasters place
emphasis on W3C validation, although the SERP's don't reflect
this need right now.

Perhaps
the SEO technology that search engine optimizers use most
are tools and applications for doing their jobs.
|
SEO toolbars,
Wordpress plug-ins and back link checkers are some common bits
of SEO technology needed in order to serve the client. There are
many toolbars that work with either Internet Explorer and Firefox
browsers that will scan a page and deliver results such as keyword
density, back link information and ranking data just to name a
few.
Worpress
plug-ins such as All in One SEO Pack or SEO Title Tag make the
blog optimizer's job a lot easier. Over the years, SEO technology
has been built by programmers into such software as Wordpress
or even shopping cart software such as OScommerce or the beefed
up CRE Loaded version that many features will work right out of
the box. (so to speak).
But, it needs
to be mentioned here that SEO technology really starts with the
keyword research. Apps such as Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery,
Google AdWords Keyword Tool and at one time the Overture Tool
(before it took a dive) have all been valuable SEO technology
for uncovering keywords that people use in their online searches.
Some other
applications that are popular in the industry are those used to
assess a page's keyword density. SEOChat, Ranks.nl and SEOBook
all have popular apps for scanning pages and delivering needed
results.
And, one
bit of SEO technology that has indeed made the optimizer's job
a lot easier are the dozens of tools for checking back links.
From Google and Yahoo to Marketleap to Domain Pop to SEOmoz there
are a plethora of methods and applications from which to choose
now.
Widgets are
also a bit of SEO technology that have become popular in the last
few years. Widgets, if coded and promoted properly can be used
as link bait to attract many links to a client site. If the widget
goes viral, all the better since this will cut down the time it
will take to do link-building for a website.
There are
also other kinds of SEO technology that will help promote a website
as well. Files such music, movie, PDF's, games and others can
be used to publicize a website and gain valuable back links. Creating,
coding and marketing these files can pay off many dividends in
increased traffic and sales.
Although
SEO technology has helped to advance the industry, the newest
SEO technology has not, however, replaced the skill of the optimization
specialist who needs to interpret the data and make adjustments
accordingly. For instance, the back link applications previously
mentioned will give a great deal of information, but it will ultimately
be the skill of the specialist who interprets this data and puts
the required fixes into action that will make or break a client's
website.
SEO technology
has come a long way since the early days of keyword stuffing the
meta tags and throwing a bunch of nonsensical text at the bottom
of a page. Both the technology itself and the skill of the SEO
interpreting the data have advanced to the sophisticated level
that we have today.
